    Most Rev. Dr. Athanasios Akunda

    Bishop of Kisumu and West Kenya

    His Grace Athanasios (Amos Akunda Masaba), Bishop of Kisumu and West Kenya, was born in Ebusitatsi Ebukhubi, Bunyore, West Kenya. He studied at Mundecheyo Primary, Mill Hill Catholic High School, the “Makarios III” Seminary, and the Holy Cross Theological Academy in the USA, earning a Doctor of Theology (DTH) from UNISA. Ordained as a Deacon in 1998 and Presbyter in 2002 by His Eminence Metropolitan Seraphim, he was consecrated Archimandrite in 2010 by Metropolitan Damaskinos. He served in various Metropolises and Missions in Kenya, Boston, and South Africa, and lectured at the “Makarios III” Patriarchal Seminary. Elected Bishop of Kisumu in 2015, he was ordained on December 6, 2015, and reposed on January 4, 2019.
