    Associate Professor of Old Testament at St. Vladimir's Seminary

    Dr. Legaspi is Associate Professor of Old Testament at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in Yonkers, NY. He holds a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from Harvard University. At SVOTS, he teaches courses in Hebrew, Old Testament, and philosophy. Before coming to the Seminary, Legaspi taught at Creighton University, Pennsylvania State University, and Phillips Academy (Andover). He is the author of The Death of Scripture and the Rise of Biblical Studies (Oxford University Press, 2010) and Wisdom in Classical and Biblical Tradition (Oxford University Press, 2018), as well as articles and book chapters on topics in intellectual history and biblical studies. Legaspi’s recent and ongoing work concerns the book of Job, the relation of historical criticism to traditional interpretation, and understandings of subjectivity reflected in the book of Psalms. He and his wife, Abby, have four grown children: Josiah, Sister Glykeria, Ana, and Cato.
