Volkert Volkersz

Volkert Nicholas Volkersz is a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church (OCA) in Claremont, New Hampshire, where he sings in the choir and serves as assistant choir director and lay reader. He has served as choir director in three different Antiochian Orthodox parishes in Washington State. For many years he was an active member of PSALM (Pan-Orthodox Society for the Preservation of Liturgical Music) where he served as the eList moderator. He has composed several pieces of liturgical music. Prior to his reception into the Orthodox Church in 1999, Volkert was a guest musician, worship leader, choir director and praise band leader in various Evangelical churches over the course of 30 years. He has a degree in Music Education from Fairhaven College/Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, and a Diploma in Christian Studies from Regent College in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. He worked in the field of education for 39 years as a band & choir director, music teacher, and school librarian. Volkert continues to perform as a folk singer/songwriter/guitarist in New Hampshire and occasionally in the Pacific Northwest. He has several published essays, and occasionally writes poetry.
