Thank you for considering Public Orthodoxy as a platform for your insights on Orthodox Christianity. We welcome both solicited and unsolicited contributions that align with our mission of Bridging the Ecclesial, the Academic, and the Political.
Important Notice to Contributors: Before submitting your work, we strongly advise taking time to carefully review and implement our submission guidelines. Adherence to these requirements significantly increases the likelihood of your submission being considered for publication and reduces the need for extensive revisions. Submissions that do not follow our guidelines may be returned without review, requiring you to reformat and resubmit your work.
Our editorial process is designed to maintain the high standards our readers expect while respecting your valuable insights. By following our guidelines from the outset, you help create a more efficient review process that benefits all parties involved.
1. Length:
- Short Reads section: 900 to 1,200 words (maximum).
- Good Reads section: 3,000 to 4,000 words.
- Please be advised that manuscripts shorter or longer than the listed word limits will not be considered for publication.
- In certain cases, longer pieces may be considered for multi-part submissions if the topic is exceptionally compelling. However, prior approval from the editor is required.
2. Formatting:
- Use a concise title of 5 words maximum. Your title should capture the essence of your argument. Please note that the editorial team may suggest an alternative title that more effectively communicates your article’s central thesis to our audience.
- Subtitle is optional, also up to 5 words.
- Engage the reader with a lead paragraph at the beginning of your submission.
- Use hyperlinks for all online references rather than endnotes whenever possible. This improves readability and allows readers immediate access to your sources.
- If you include allusions or indirect quotes from the Holy Scriptures, please mark these phrases in the text. This helps our translators ensure accuracy.
- Submit manuscripts in Microsoft Word format only.
- Do not embed images in the text. Please send them separately with description and credits.
3. Language:
- Submissions are accepted in English, Russian, Greek, or Ukrainian, with English being our preferred language. Bilingual authors are welcome to submit articles with their own translations.
- Let us know if you are fluent in multiple languages. After approval, we can provide a translated text for your review.
4. Bio and Photo:
- Include a short bio of up to 250 words.
- Provide the job title you wish to see displayed on Public Orthodoxy.
- Submit a square headshot photo in JPEG format (1000×1000 px).
We eagerly anticipate your submissions and the opportunity to engage with insightful perspectives on Orthodox Christianity.
